We often get asked how a person gets into a certain profession? In this field it’s often a degree in Kinesiology, Health Science, or Biomedical Studies and going through the Diploma in Pedorthics program.  Add in the desire to help people and wanting to work with your hands and that’s your typical pedorthist. What if though, it was also in a person’s DNA to work with feet and shoes?!!!

Our pedorthists Emma and Christy are very alike this way—neither of them are first generation feet people!!!

Christy’s great, great, great grandfather George Schinbein, was a shoe maker in New Berlin, Ontario. He made custom shoes for $5 in 1890. In fact, the giant shoe that hung outside of the shop can be found in our clinic! Christy never realized this until a few years ago when a family member was trying to get rid of this giant shoe. We don’t think the shoe was made for anyone in particular but it might be a close size for Shaquille O’Neil!!

Emma also comes from a background in shoes. Her grandparents were the owners of Henderson Shoes in Blenheim, Ontario. In fact, 2 generations ran and operated the business. This was the place to go in the Chatham-Kent area for quality shoes!!

Without realizing it, our two pedorthists were set-up for a career by fate. Not only do they love what they do, but they work hard to ensure you leave the clinic with a high-quality product. It seems that feet and shoes just run through their blood!!

How did you get into your profession? Were you “destined” for a career that you had no idea about?
