Hiking is a great way to get outside and enjoy nature. The terrain on hiking trails can sometimes be uneven, uphill, and there can be steps/stairs. So why choose a hiking boot?
Well, hiking boots tend to come up over the ankle. This helps to reduce the risk of ankle rolls or sprains. The thick sole on the bottom also protects the feet from sharp rocks or sticks, as well as provides more of a barrier for water and mud! The height of the boot (as well as tall socks) can provide some protection from bugs such as mosquitoes and ticks
It is important to ensure you are wearing the right sized boot. Bring your orthotics and the socks you will be wearing with you shopping to ensure you have a finger’s width at the end of the boot. Try wearing the boots on a few small hikes to break them in and to ensure they aren’t creating pain or blisters.
Some of our favourite brands for hiking boots include: Keen, Merrell, Salomon, and Columbia. Happy hiking!
