As my son is learning to skate, I can’t help but watch what his legs look like in his skates: knock knees, ankles rolling inward and feet sliding out from under him. Unfortunately I giggled as it reminded of Bambi on ice, but he came off the ice frustrated. His ankles hurt and he was too slow to keep up with his peers. We tried tightening the skates but he was still rolling in (pronated).
The next week we tried his orthotics in his skates. Seemed to make all the difference in the world!! Suddenly he’s standing straighter, his ankles don’t hurt and the blades are staying on the ice. Such a difference! Now he can stop, turn, and speed down the ice and he’s loving it.
Has your kid just started skating? Or have you recently noticed that their ankles are rolling inward while I’m the skates? Does your child have difficulty stopping or even just standing? It might be worth having their feet checked in their skates by a Canadian Certified Pedorthist to see if custom or over the counter orthotics might be helpful. Call today and bring your skates to the appointment!
